“New Amsterdam” is the panicle of the series ”Don Quixote in Manhattan” that embodies the thematic spirit that defines Sergo Tbileli’s artistic journey. Throughout his extensive body of work, the figure of Don Quixote reappears as a symbol of the eternal quest—a manifestation of the delicate balance between chivalry and the harshness of ordinary reality. Tbileli declares, “Don Quixote lives on in all of us, and time and time again, there’s always a Don Quixote embarking on his quest.” This statement underlines his belief that the seemingly delusional pursuit of noble ideals is an intrinsic part of the human condition. the spirit of Don Quixote is ever-present—morphing, enduring, and inspiring at every juncture of life.

Positioning Don Quixote in a modern context within an alternative version of New York City—once known as New Amsterdam—further cements this vision.  Tbileli envisions a metropolis where “skyscraper windmills” evoke a bygone era infused with modern ambition. Here, the legendary duo of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza finds new meaning, serving as timeless emblems of resistance and perseverance. This imaginative recontextualization bridges historical allegory with contemporary urban landscapes, reinforcing the idea that the quest for chivalry and truth is both a personal and collective odyssey.
